Pair of early 20th century linen lined and shaped curtains for a large arched door or window

€135.00
Sold

These curtains must have been custom-made for an entrance-way with a very large door, or perhaps an arched picture window. They are pure linen backed with a soft tightly-woven cotton. The printing looks like or is copying a blockprint, and the motif and method of printing suggests that these are probably around 1900-1910. The flowers are very much in the 19th and early 19th century tradition of Indiennes fabrics. Each curtain is shaped like a very large upside-down ‘L’, with the inner angle curved and fringed with passementerie border. They are in very good condition, the backing is slight stained with storage marks, and there is a little wear at the top where curtain rings would have been stitched on. They are a little faded at the front, but the patina is gorgeous. They have been washed. They measure 186cm across, 285cm long, and are 61cm wide down the sides, and I do hope they go somewhere where they can be displayed as a pair, around a large entrance way or window, as they will look magnificent hung full-length.
