Provençal cotton flannel piqué countrywoman's petticoat
These are so hard to find now, and this one is in beautiful condition - a very large cotton flannel piqué petticoat with a drawstring waist and hand-embroidered scalloped hem. These are typical of the sourthern parts of France - this one was acquired from a woman who lives nearish to me now but who was born in Provençe and spent many years haunting the markets down south. They were made to be worn both drawn in and folded - it proved to be very tricky to do this on my static mannequin so please forgive the way it has been folded. In almost perfect condition, it has some extremely tiny marks which are pretty much invisible unless looking for them and which won’t show up in photos. It measures 80cm lying flat at the shaped curved waist, so a maximum waist sized of 160cm - but of course was made to be drawn in and folded. It is 80cm long from the top of the waistband to the hem.
