Exquisite 19th century very large and fine handwoven linen farmhouse sheet, initials MT
I hardly ever find these sheets any more. It used to be that I would find them regularly, but now, no, they are almost all gone. This is a handspun and handwoven linen sheet, from the 19th century. It has been handstitched together out of two panels of beautiful textile, because handlooms cannot exceed a certain width if they are operated by only one person, as this one would have been. This sheet is very fine for a handwoven linen farmhouse sheet, and the textile is just gorgeous - look at the selvedges. It is in very good condition. There is a little bit of damage and wear to a tiny section of one edge, and the stitching in the middle is a bit tired in places, but otherwise this is perfect, no stains or damage apart from this. It is also very large for one of these sheets, they rarely exceed 220cm wide and are more often around 210×290cm.
