Exceptional pure fine linen sheet set with paired pillowcases initials CLR

€180.00
Sold

This beautiful sheet set is made of finest fil-de-lin - pure linen, very densely woven, which gives an incredible silky drape to the fabric. It would have belonged to someone very wealthy, the sheet is exceptionally large and despite the austere border work, there are many, many hours of work in this piece. The border is drawn-thread work, made by picking out the weft threads right along the whole width of the fabric, and then wrapping and stitching them to form ladders and crosses. In each of the top two corners and in all four corners of the pillowcases, there are additional geometric motifs made in drawn and stitched thread work, marked out by grouping warp and weft threads together and binding them with stitches. If this sounds like a lot of work, it really is. Additonally, each of the three pieces has a large hand- embroidered set of intials ‘CLR’ and even the bottom hem of the sheet has been marked out in grouped stitch-work.

These are in perfect condition. The only fault I can find is one very small stain, like a tiny ink mark, which I have photographed.

The sheet measures a huge 245cm wide by 328cm long, and the pillowcases are each 65×67cm insert size.
