Superb men's linen peasant shirt initials DP
This shirt is a very rare example of a machine-woven linen survivor. Usually when I find shirts like these made from lighter machine-woven linen as opposed to dense handwoven linen, work shirts rather than dress shirts, they are damaged beyond repair - and usually I don’t find them at all. Medium weight densely woven linen in a very soft grey with a lovely drape and feel - this is superbly wearable and the linen is better quality than anything you will ever find today. The cuffs are the same linen, but the collar is a very fine pure cream linen to contrast with the body. It has mother of pearl buttons and superb handmade buttonholes - it has been both hand and machine-stitched and is impeccably-made. There are a couple of very tiny marks, completely unnoticeable and I think forgivable given that this is easily 110 years old. Initials DP at the bottom of the bib. It measures 62cm armpit to armpit lying flat (all measurements are taken lying flat)
Sleeve to cuff: 53cm
Sleeve where it meets body including underarm gusset: 24cm (so 48cm around upper part of the arm
Shoulder to shoulder across back of neck: 70cm
Please click on the photos to open them up full-sized.
I have four of these that are all as identical as handmade pieces can be.
