Extremely 19th-century handwoven linen peasant shirt
This is a very 19th century but still very wearable example of a peasant shirt par excellence. The fabric is handwoven linen and it is tough. This has cotton cuffs and collar, and golden Atlantic mother of pearl buttons which speak to its age as they have been stamped rather than carved. This is handstitched, and in excellent condition, but it will probably see you into the next world. It will grow increasingly softer the more it is used and washed (still, wash it gently, harsh washing and too much agitating is bad for handwoven cloth). There are a couple of small marks on the back that are so faint I can’t get them to show up on a photograph so you will have to take my word that they exist.
All measurements are taken flat. It measures 51cm armpit to armpit, 52cm from the shoulder to the edge of the cuff along the top part of the sleeve, 48cm from shoulder seam to seam across the back of the neck, and is 22cm including gusset at the point where the arm meets the body, so 44cm around the upper part of the arm.
